Novak Djokovic Defeated Andy Murray in Straight Sets to Win His Sixth Australian Open Title.

Image
Tennis Andy Murray's hopes of a maiden Australian Open title were once again dashed by Novak Djokovic as the world No 1 won a record-equalling sixth Melbourne title on Sunday. Djokovic successfully defended his crown in his fifth consecutive Grand Slam final after pipping Murray to the title for a fourth time and fifth overall with a commanding 6-1 7-5 7-6 (7-3) victory on Rod Laver Arena. Victory helped the 28-year-old claim his 11th Grand Slam title and join Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg on the all-time list - and inch closer to Roger Federer's record of 17. He also equalled the tally of Australia's Roy Emerson, who won the tournament six times between 1961 and 1967, an achievement that has gone unmatched in the 49 years since - until Sunday.

AN ENCOUNTER WITH A 419NER

Today · Public Exactly two weeks ago, a lady dressed as a Custom Officer on her Facebook wall, sent me a friend's request. Seeing her age and rank, I accepted. Thirty minutes after we became Facebook friends, she sent me a message on both my wall and inbox that The Nigerian Customs was selling impounded cars at cheap and affordable prices. I immediately knew that the lady was not for real. Typical of me, I would have deleted her from my friends list, but I deliberately opted to humor her by playing along. I called the number she sent in her advert, and it was a man who picked. I told him I wanted to talk to Femmy Juliana but he said she was his boss blah blah....and that he was her PA. He said I could do business with him as he represented his "madam".

Secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Temitope Aluko on Sunday opened a can of worms as he gave an insider account of how the military was used to rig the 2014 Ekiti State governor election that Ayo Fayose won under PDP. Aluko, who was the Chief Returning Officer and signed the results for the election, also disclosed how former President Goodluck Jonathan, gave Fayose $37 million cash to prosecute the governorship election. The embattled Secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of PDP, made the disclosure in Abuja, stressed that he was forced to come forward with the revelations because Fayose betrayed him and derailed from the original plan they had for the development of the state. Aluko had also testified in camera before the military panel that investigated the role of the military in the Ekiti election.

Angelique Kerber Produced an Upset as She Beat Serena Williams to Win her First Grand Slam Title.

Image
Tennis  Angelique Kerber ruined Serena Williams' hopes of matching Steffi Graf's Grand Slam haul of 22 major titles with a shock victory in the Australian Open final. Kerber became the first German to clinch a major since Graf won the last of her slams at Roland Garros in 1999 with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 success on Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Saturday. World No 1 Williams had battered five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova in the quarter-finals and fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the semi-finals. But Kerber, who saved a match point in her first-round clash with Japan's Misaki Doi, entered her first major final with immense confidence to walk away with her maiden Slam. Completing victory after two hours and eight minutes, Kerber lay outstretched in disbelief, having sealed one of the biggest shocks in tennis history. Kerber, inspired by a message from Graf, made clear before the match that all the pressure was on her opponent and she mercilessly exploited ...

How to Have a Great Day (Sunday Jan 31st 2016)

Word Therapy RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **Remain Fervent For The Lord** Sunday 31st January: Pastor Chris PHD Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). These are the last days. There’s a lot of distraction in the world today, enough to take your attention away from the Lord and His Kingdom. There’re those who are fervent in serving the Lord, only when everything is calm: Their business is thriving, they’re getting promotions at work, etc. At such times, they’re full of testimonies of God’s goodness, loving the Lord and demonstrating His love to their world. But once trouble strikes, they get discouraged. They change their confessions and their commitment to the Lord begins to wane. Don’t be that way; be on fire for the Lord all the time. Be instant in season, and out of season. Some others only serve God when they have problems. They...

Word Therapy RHAPSODY OF REALITIES ✨Walk In Divine Health✨ Saturday 30th January: Pastor Chris PhD But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs (Mark 7:27). Sometimes, you find Christians who say, “Lord, heal me. I claim my healing.” For the baby and ignorant Christian, God may put up with that for a while. The time comes when He says, “Come on! Grow up!” And such prayers wouldn’t work anymore. Some people have asked me, “Pastor Chris, I used to pray for people and they got healed, and I also prayed for myself and I got healed. However, nowadays, when I pray for myself, nothing happens, even though I still pray for people and they receive healing. What’s gone wrong?” The problem is simple. God never told you to pray for yourself to be healed. Just because it worked for you when you were a baby Christian doesn’t mean you should go on like that. The Bible says, “And the times of thi...

Image
Football Francis Coquelin’s return to the Arsenal squad for the FA Cup fourth round tie with Burnley will hand Arsene Wenger’s side a major lift following last Sunday’s league defeat by Chelsea. Burnley visit the Emirates six days after Diego Costa’s match-winning goal prevented the Gunners returning to the top of the Premier League. The way Wenger’s FA Cup holders respond against a side challenging for promotion from the Championship will be a test of character. And Coquelin’s return two months after suffering knee ligament damage at West Bromwich Albion will help Arsenal recover from their latest stumble. Wenger’s side have stuttered in recent weeks, winning just two of their last six league games.

Word of God RHAPSODY OF REALITIES THURSDAY 28 JANUARY, 2016. PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME PhD THEME: YOU CAN BE A SUCCESS — A TRUE SUCCESS! My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings....For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22). Getting a school degree is important, but there’s more to life. There’s something more important than the education you receive from the four walls of an academic institution; it’s called spiritual education. For some people, having acquired an academic degree, they think that’s all they need. While it’s good to be formally educated, true success is of the Spirit. This accounts for the reason many of the world’s intelligentsia have a life that’s the complete antithesis of true success. Some people made straight “A”s in school but got a “D” in life. For example, a medical doctor who, after treating so many people, contracts a disease that has defied all medical solutions. Now, he’s ...

The Eagle in a storm (Part 2b). __Imagining new wealth creation models.

Image
Wealth creation by Dr Strive Masiyiwa The talk with my Japanese friend had left me thinking deeply about how we in Africa think about wealth. Maybe, just maybe, there was another way to think about it? Imagine if my teachers had taught me that we are "very rich" because we produce some of the smartest entrepreneurs in Africa… people with the know-how and vision to transform our minerals into such great innovations and products that we no longer export our raw materials all over the world! From then on, every time I visited a country (or even a major city), and watched its economic activity, particularly places doing well, I would reflect on its "wealth creation model." __Imagine a wealth creation model that doesn’t require any raw material endowment, like Silicon Valley, or Singapore! I was fascinated by countries that rise without necessarily being underpinned by minerals and the exploitation of raw materials: Dubai, Mauritius, Singapore, South Korea, S...

Mark Hughes believed Liverpool were "incredibly fortunate" to beat Stoke City in the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Image
Football Simon Mignolet saved two penalties as Liverpool won a dramatic shootout 6-5 to reach the final after Stoke had won the second leg at Anfield 1-0. Trailing 1-0 from the first-leg, Marko Arnautovic - despite appearing to be in an offside position - netted on the stroke of half-time for Stoke, which was the only goal of the game. Missed spot-kicks by Peter Crouch and Emre Can took the shootout to sudden death where Marc Muniesa was denied by a wonderful Mignolet save and Joe Allen netted the winning penalty. Hughes said his team deserved more as his wait to manage in a major final at Wembley goes on.

FG, States, LGs Share N387.8bn for December

Image
Finance news The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, on Tuesday in Abuja said that N387.8 billion was shared among the federal, states and local governments as revenue for December, 2015. Adeosun, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr Mahmoud Isa-Dutse, announced this while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting. She said that the shared amount comprised the month’s statutory revenue of N315 billion. “Also, there is the exchange gain of N4.5 billion which is proposed for distribution. Adeosun also said that the money shared included the N6.3 billion that was refunded to the federation account by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). “Therefore the total revenue distributable for the month of December, including VAT of N62 billion, is N387.8 billion,” she said.

How to Have a Great Day (Weds 27th Jan 2016)

Word Therapy RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **He’s Your Strength And Shield!** Wednesday 27th January: Pastor Chris PhD The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1). In the Psalm above, David wasn’t asking the Lord for strength. It lacks spiritual wisdom to keep praying and asking the Lord to give you strength when, already, He’s the strength of your life. If the Lord is the strength of your life, you don’t need to ask Him for strength, because if you have Him, you have strength; therefore, no room for weakness in your life. The Apostle Paul, with this understanding, made an extraordinary claim in 2 Corinthians 12:10. He said, “...for when I am weak, then am I strong.” He knew His strength was the Holy Spirit that dwelt in him. No wonder He said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV).

Govt Denies Out-of-Court Settlement Plan with MTN over Fine

Image
News • Minister unveils communications sector roadmap • Reps berate Shittu over suspension of NITDA boss THE Federal Government yesterday said it had not resolved to settle out of court with MTN Nigeria over the $5.2 billion fine the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) imposed on the company last year. Answering question from journalists yesterday in Abuja, Minister of Communications Technology, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, said that there could be no out-of-court settlement except MTN withdraws the case from the court. He said: “The case is in court, it was MTN that dragged the Federal Government to court. I am not aware of any out-of-court settlement, as issues like this are very sensitive. As far as we are concerned, there can be no out-of-court settlement except they withdraw the case from the court so that government will not be put under any pressure whatsoever. If the case is out-of-court, the President will take a decision but for now, I am not aware of any out-of-court...
