RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **HE BROUGHT US OUT, TO HIMSELF** Sunday 28th February: Pastor Chris PhD Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:12-13). The word translated “delivered” above is the Greek “rhuomai,” which means to pluck and bring to yourself. You know, you can pluck something and let it fall; or place it somewhere. However, it’s different when you pluck it and take it to yourself. It means to rush something out of where it is, and pull it to yourself. That’s what God did with us. He didn’t just “pluck” us out of the domain of darkness, He brought us out to Himself! He rushed you out of the power, the dominion, the control, the jurisdiction, the authority of darkness, and pulled you to Himself; to absolute safety. You’ve been delivered from the control of darkness. Darkness represe

How to Have a Great Day (Friday 26th Feb 2016)

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **He Qualified Us** Friday 26th February: Pastor Chris PhD Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:12). Our opening scripture tells us that God has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. By your own ability, you couldn't qualify; by your parent's ability you couldn't qualify; by your earthly nationality, you couldn't qualify; by your words and actions, you couldn't qualify. He qualified you in Christ Jesus; He made you fit to be an associate of the God-kind. He qualified you to be an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ. This means you shouldn't have the poverty mentality; you should have no sense of need or lack, because your Father owns everything. Take for instance, little kids who know their parents have and will give them anything; they rarely ask for anything from other kids. They wouldn&

Agwu said that the theme of his concert was a reflection of the brain tumor ordeal he survived “by the mercies of God”.

Gov Ambode …Says Buhari On Track To Salvage Economy …Lagos Is Secured And Safe For Business- MD Nigerian Breweries Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday expressed optimism that the foreign exchange crisis plaguing the country which has resulted in Naira depreciating considerably low against the Dollar is solvable, but that the country must look inward and start to embrace massive local manufacturing of products and local ownership of businesses. Governor Ambode said the deficiency which Nigeria is currently experiencing in the economy as a result of the forex challenges was a pointer to the fact that all hands must be on deck to carry out some kind of structural adjustment on the economy and encourage the manufacturing of products needed by Nigerians in Nigeria.

….Says Centre’ll Aid Investigation On Domestic, Sexual Violence Cases, Others In furtherance of its commitment to the criminal justice sector reforms and take the fight against crime to a greater level, the Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced that it has concluded plans to establish the first ever high-powered DNA Forensic Laboratory in Nigeria which will take off within the next six to twelve months. The lab, which would be called the Lagos State DNA Forensics Centre (LSDFC), when fully operational, would fulfill an unmet need for DNA profiling which is a unique forensic technique that is now being used all over the world. Addressing journalists at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa on Tuesday, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, said the establishment of the centre was another eloquent testimony of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s sincerity and seriousness towards fighting all forms of criminality.

Daily Devotional RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **Strengthened With God’s Might** Thursday 25th February: Pastor Chris PhD That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness (Colossians 1:10-11). In our theme scripture, we see another desire and will of God’s Spirit as He prays through the Apostle Paul for His saints. He wants us to be strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness. What does this mean? The word “might” is the Greek “dunamis”; it means miracle-working ability; the ability to make supernatural things happen. It refers to an ability to do the impossible; a supernatural ability. This is the power that God wants you to operate in, and with; it’s His will for you. You can change anything. You can fix anything, bec

Daily Devotional RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **USE GOD'S MIRROR** Tuesday 23rd February: Pastor Chris PhD For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed (James 1:23-25). Israel, in the Old Testament, was called to obey the law. But as Christians, we’re called to do the Word, we practise the Word. It’s called the “mirror principle.” The Word of God is a mirror, and anyone who hears the Word and doesn’t do it, (notice He didn’t say “and doesn’t obey it”), it’s like a man who sees himself in a mirror and when he turns away, forgets who he is. Which means the one who does the Word is the one who looks at himself in the mirror and remembers his identity

The Eagle in a storm (Part 5) by Dr Strive Masiyiwa

Lifestyle __You need to develop relationships with people based on trust. The other day I was in New York and decided to attend a church service with a dear friend of more than 20 years, Dr AR Bernard of Christian Cultural Centre. During the service they showed a video called the "Marshmallow Test." Young children were put in a room with a marshmallow (a type of sweet) and told that if they didn’t eat it, they’d get an extra one when the adult returned. Left alone, the children then had to manage their impulse to simply grab the sweet and eat it. Many of them managed to control themselves and so earned the extra sweet. However, experts found that those children who’d previously been let down by an adult ate the sweet immediately. __Some of the children in the Marshmallow Test just didn’t value the promise made by the adult because they’d been betrayed by adults before!

Staying Injury Free (2)

Allowing The Knees To Go Forward During The Squat THE squat is one of my favourite exercises. It can be layered to work many different muscles at the same time and should be on your exercise list. However, when done incorrectly can very easily damage your knees and lower back. When doing a squat the wrong way, the knees will move forward excessively towards the bottom of the motion. This will leave the knees far in front of the toes, which should not happen, as it puts a lot of pressure directly on the knees. When done right, the movement should be the same as going from a seated to standing position. This means that as you lower your body, the hips are pushed back, allowing the knees to stay fairly stationary behind the feet. Stand in front of a chair or by a wall if you need something to hold onto for balance.  It may be more comfortable for you to spread your feet out. Have someone watch your knees or stand in front of a mirror while you squat to help you monitor thi

Daily Devotional RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL**  Monday 22nd February: Pastor Chris PhD For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9). The word translated “knowledge” above is the Greek “Epignosis”; a special kind of knowledge. It actually means precise, accurate, and absolute knowledge that can only come by revelation; it’s the kind of knowledge that comes from God’s Spirit. Not many have the knowledge of God’s will for their lives. Not many function with wisdom and spiritual understanding. They’re hoping that they’re functioning in God’s will; hoping that things will turn out right, but the Spirit’s desire is that you be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. This will stand you out, and make you a wonder to your world, because you won’t think or r

Hon. WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE LAST 20 YEARS? THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH ABOUT OIL SPILL CLEAN-UP

Image
As people remember the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the 8 other Ogoni leaders 20 years ago, SDN’s latest report exposes some startling truths about oil spill cleanup in Nigeria and the devastating environmental legacy this leaves. Ogoniland and Ken Saro-Wiwa were both made household names after the killing of 9 Ogoni writers, activists and community leaders in 1995 following their outspoken protests against a polluting oil industry and a state that backed up the international oil business with violence and intimidation. So what has changed in the last 20 years? The United Nations Environment Programme report into oil pollution in Ogoniland in 2011 painted a picture of an area heavily polluted by oil that requires widespread environmental remediation following countless oil spills. Amnesty International’s latest report claims that 4 oil spill sites that have been claimed to be cleaned up by the oil giant Shell are still visibly polluted and that efforts to clean up oil spills a

NIGERIA IN 2016: A CHALLENGING YEAR AHEAD

Image
Economic slowdown in Europe and China, dropping prices of oil, mean shrinking of budgets in Nigeria.  This coincides with a year that will be the decisive test of Buhari’s administration. A much needed reform of the bureaucracy is required if he is to deliver on campaign promises to reduce corruption and diversify the economy. While many nationalists support his refusal to devalue the naira, few are happy with the alternatives: stringent controls on foreign exchange and economic slowdown. Buhari is also oil minister, and has expressed his determination to complete the first phase of reforms of the State-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation by March.  However, there are a number of political figures who could create problems for the President in the passage of these reforms. The administration is facing a revival of the political unrest over oil revenues in the Niger Delta.  With the extension of the Amnesty Program, an opportunity presents itself for the meaningful rei

OIL DIVIDES: REBUILDING PEACE IN THE NIGER DELTA

Image
Niger delta The case of Rumuekpe Community, Niger Delta, narrates the wretched human consequences of oil exploration.  A community left without development despite its resource riches, plagued by both poverty and in-fighting.  Royalties handed out by extractors have fallen into the pockets of the few, fuelling explosive tensions, culminating in bloody conflict leaving hundreds dead. SDN’s community engagement in Rumuekpe both highlighted the brutality of the conflicts, as well as the people’s yearning for peace and harmony. Despite the Nigerian State gaining its independence in 1960, its people have still fallen victim to the ‘divide and rule’ tactics associated with the colonial era.  The earlier part of the 20th century saw Britain’s Royal Niger Company use the system of ‘indirect rule’, alongside military suppression to control and capitalise the profitable Palm Oil trade. The global consciousness has since denounced imperial practice, preferring the ideals of freedom and de

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **Authority To Forgive Sins** Wednesday 17th February: Pastor Chris PhD Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained (John 20:23). In Mark 2, the Bible tells us how a crowd gathered unto Jesus in a house, jamming the entrance that no one could get in or out. Four men, who weren’t able to get in, because of the crowd, removed a part of the roof, and lowered their friend, a paralyzed man, on a stretcher down to Jesus said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Jesus didn’t touch him or even say anything about the man’s sickness or his physical condition. However, He dealt with the man’s spiritual condition first, because his physical condition was created by his spiritual condition. In the fifth verse, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Some religious scholars present became indignant, and murmured, “Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can fo

Prince William signals support for Britain staying in the EU as David Cameron holds last-ditch Brussels talks

Prince Williams Prince William drawn into the EU referendum debate as he has describes Britain as an 'outward looking nation' The Duke of Cambridge has described Britain as an "outward looking nation" with a "proud tradition of seeking out allies" in comments that drew him into the EU referendum debate, reports Gordon Rayner and Peter Dominiczak. On the day that David Cameron began last-ditch talks in Brussels to renegotiate Britain's relationship with the EU, the Duke said the UK's sense of adventure "continues to drive our economy", in what appeared to be a direct address to Eurosceptics. The timing of his comments, just days before the Prime Minister's expected announcement of the EU referendum date, echo the Queen's intervention on the eve of the Scottish referendum, when she urged Scots to "think very carefully about the future" in a highly-orchestrated hint that they should vote to remain part of the Union

The naira will weaken further at the parallel market this week after shedding nine per cent of its value last week, foreign exchange dealers and economic experts have said. Last week, the local currency fell from 310 to 338 as acute shortage of the greenback lingered. The CBN has left the official exchange rate unchanged at N197 to the dollar on its official interbank window. Forex dealers and experts expect the naira to fall further at the parallel market this week as demand for the greenback continues to soar. “The situation has got to the point of hysteria now; everybody wants to hold dollars. So the demand is rising and piling up,” the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said. The local currency hit a record low of 338 to the dollar on Thursday as desperate importers scrambled for dollars to meet their obligations overseas. The local currency had closed at 325, 318, 313.5 and 310 on Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday a

Leonardo Wins the Bafta, but his Oscar trek isn't over yet

Leonardo DiCaprio accepting his Best Actor award at the 2016 Baftas To the surprise of nobody, The Revenant swept the board at the 2016 Baftas. But why were Spielberg and Carol frozen out? Here’s the unexpected lesson of this year’s Bafta Film Awards: the industry and the public are more closely in sync than you’d think. The big winner at last night’s ceremony was The Revenant, which left clutching five trophies, including Best Film, in its calloused, frost-bitten fists. And of its four fellow nominees in the top category, it’s also the most successful by some margin. Last weekend, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s icy survival epic sailed through the £18 million barrier at the UK box office – and following its success at London’s Royal Opera House, business is unlikely to slow any time soon. So much for elitism: the night’s big winner was the film in which Leonardo DiCaprio rides a horse off a cliff. Elsewhere, the results stacked up much as predicted. DiCaprio was named Be

Daily Devotional RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **You Have His Righteousness** Monday 15th February: Pastor Chris PhD For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17). John 1:17 says, “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” Jesus Christ didn’t come with the law; He came with grace, and brought us righteousness as a gift. Righteousness is the expression of the will and nature of the Father. He declared us righteous, because we’re new creations in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Romans 4:25 lets us know that He (Jesus) “...was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” Thus, He’s our acquitter. When you heard the Gospel and believed, declaring Jesus Christ to be the Lord of y

Gary Neville secured his first win in La Liga as his Valencia side hung on for a 2-1 win over Espanyol

Image
Football Gary Neville tasted league victory for the first time as Valencia manager after his side came from behind to beat Espanyol 2-1 in the Mestalla. Oscar Duarte piled the pressure on Neville as he beat Valencia 'keeper Diego Alves to the ball to head home on 53 minutes to give Espanyol a deserved lead. The Mestalla feared the worst, but Neville's substitutions paid dividends, as Alvaro Negredo equalised soon afterwards, via a deflection. Then, there was delirium in the stands - and on the bench - on 76 minutes, as Denis Cheryshev fired home what proved to be a crucial winner. Espanyol continued to test Alves, adding to the home fans' frustrations. Down the other end, Paco Alcacer was starved of any real service, with Daniel Parejo's free-kick from distance the closest the hosts came in the opening 45 minutes. After the break, the game sprung into life, as Duarte stunned the Mestalla and put Valencia behind. Alves looked to be first to a left-wing Es

Daily Devotional RHAPSODY OF REALITIES **INFLUENCE YOUR WORLD WITH THE CHRIST-LIFE.** SUNDAY, 14TH FEBRUARY. Pastor Chris PhD You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on your hearts, to be known and read by all men; and you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts (2 Corinthians 3:2-3 RSV). Many people have the wrong perception about Christianity. Some say it’s the worship of God. Others say it’s the belief in Jesus Christ; and some others say it’s going to church. Though Christians worship God, believe in Jesus Christ, and go to church, none of these really define Christianity. Christianity is the out-working of the Christ-life in a human being. It’s the manifestation of the righteousness of God in a human person. It’s the daily walk of divinity in humanity; God’s daily walk in a man; that’s Christianity! Christianity is the Wor

Woman Convicted in Grand Daughter's running Death dies

Image
An Alabama woman convicted of capital murder in the running death of her 9-year-old granddaughter died Friday less than a year into her life-without-parole sentence for the killing. Joyce Hardin Garrard, 50, died five days after being stricken at the state's women's prison, prison spokesman Bob Horton said. The cause of death wasn't immediately available, but defense attorney Dani Bone said Garrard apparently suffered a heart attack Sunday minutes after visiting relatives at the state women's prison. She was taken from the prison by helicopter ambulance to a Montgomery hospital where she was placed on life support and eventually died. "This is another loss for a family that already has lost so much," Bone said. Last year, an Etowah County jury convicted Garrard of killing 9-year-old Savannah Hardin by making her run as punishment
